Responsibilities:
- Client Service & Escalation Ownership
- Serve as the final escalation point for complex or high-impact technical issues
- Take ownership of critical incidents through full resolution, root-cause analysis, and prevention
- Deliver a calm, professional, and confident experience during outages or time-sensitive events
- Perform advanced troubleshooting across servers, networks, security systems, and cloud platforms
- Communicate clearly with clients regarding impact, timelines, risks, and next steps
- Ticketing, Documentation & Accountability
- Work and resolve escalated tickets using our PSA/ticketing system
- Ensure all work is clearly documented with troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and outcomes
- Maintain and improve system documentation in tools like IT Glue or Hudu
- Identify repeat issues and recommend permanent fixes rather than temporary workarounds
- Break down complex issues into trackable work where appropriate
- Core Infrastructure & Microsoft Stack
- Advanced administration and troubleshooting of:
- Windows Server (AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO, file/print, basic virtualization)
- Microsoft 365 / Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive
- Security policies, conditional access, MFA, and hybrid environments
- Manage virtualization platforms such as VMware and/or Hyper-V
- Perform server migrations, upgrades, snapshots, and recovery operations
- Networking & Security
- Configure and troubleshoot firewalls and VPNs (SonicWall, Meraki, FortiGate, etc.)
- Diagnose routing, switching, VLANs, Wi-Fi, DNS, and performance issues in SMB environments
- Support endpoint and perimeter security:
- AV / EDR
- Patch management
- Backup & BCDR solutions
- MFA and compliance-oriented hardening (HIPAA / CMMC concepts may apply)
- Maintain a strong security-first mindset in all technical decisions
- MSP Tooling, Automation & Process
- Daily use of RMM and PSA platforms (ConnectWise, NinjaOne, Autotask, etc.)
- Create and maintain PowerShell scripts and automation for remediation and efficiency
- Validate monitoring, alerts, and automated tasks for accuracy and effectiveness
- Contribute to SOPs, standards, and technical best practices
- Project Leadership & Client-Facing Work
- Lead or heavily contribute to projects including:
- Server and network deployments
- Microsoft 365 migrations
- Firewall rollouts
- Office/site moves
- Perform requirements discovery and technical planning
- Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies to project leads and clients
- Provide light pre-sales or vCIO support when needed (technical validation, recommendations)
- Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor and guide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technicians
- Assist with technical decision-making and escalation guidance
- Help raise the overall technical bar of the service desk
- Identify improvement opportunities and participate in operational refinement
Skills/Must have:
- Required / Strongly Desired
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems methodically and independently
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (“speak both Geek and Human”)
- Deep understanding of MSP service delivery, escalation workflows, and documentation
- Advanced experience with:
- Windows Server & Active Directory
- Microsoft 365 & Entra ID
- Virtualized environments
- Networking fundamentals and firewall platforms
- Comfort working directly with clients and managing expectations
- Strong security awareness and adherence to documented procedures
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced MSP environment
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for onsite work
