Responsibilities:
OSP Engineering
- Responsible for the low-level engineering designs of all fiber to the premise projects to include fielding, placement, fiber counts, structures and splicing design for all backbone, feeder, distribution segments.
- Low-Level engineering designs will include both underground and aerial engineering utilizing GIS design tools.
- Detailed understanding of survey field notes and sketches to create new or update existing designs using various software platforms.
- Coordinate field technicians on data collection and field surveys. In some cases, self-perform field visits collect data and conduct field surveys.
- Prepare cost estimates and material requirements for projects, manages project financials, and performs financial true-up of projects at close.
- Perform Make-Ready analysis for aerial routes and review/approve Pole Attachment applications.
- Understand permitting requirements and ensure all engineering is completed early for long-lead permits to ensure construction is not delayed.
- Generate bill of materials, splice sheets, and other supporting documentation required for permitting, construction, and record-keeping.
- Continue to optimize the low-level design to lower cost and simplify the drop installation for field technicians.
Planning, Quality Control and Reporting
- Perform review of low-level designs to ensure adherence to company standards.
- Prepare and review work packages for internal and vendor assignments.
- Provides input on best practices, permit processes, field construction methods, and OSP material solutions.
- Be proactive and forward looking to ensure there is a strong pipeline of FTTH designs in progress & construction ready to absorb unforeseen delays without impacting annual FTTH build targets.
- Report weekly on the number of FTTH passings by status: approved, design, permitting, construction ready.
- Work with PMO to assist in the preparation of project timelines, provide regular updates on schedule, delays, and what steps may be required to mitigate the delays.
Additional Responsibilities
- Attends various meetings with management, departments, vendors and municipalities to ensure company objectives are met.
- Create weekly reports and update management on status and issues.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Construction Management or equivalent experience preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Outside Plant Engineering Design, Construction Management, or OSP Field Inspector.
- Able to travel for business requirements; possess a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, and deliver impactful presentations to supervisors and managers, while constructively escalating issues and challenges when required.
- Ability to work independently and with a team of senior-level engineers and supervisors to develop solutions to complete assigned tasks.
- Expert knowledge of outside plant engineering, field design methods, and Telecom products.
- Working knowledge of city/county/DOT/Railroad permit process.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- AutoCAD or similar tool experience is recommended.
- Experience in GIS software (ArcGIS, 3GIS, Vetro Fiber, IQGeo, or similar) is required.
- Experience in PLA (Pole Loading Analysis) software is a plus.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments
