Senior Network Engineer - Government

Join a major Australian enterprise undergoing a large-scale security transformation. They are looking for a Senior Network Engineer with deep expertise in Palo Alto NGFW and Prisma to design, implement, and optimise next-generation firewall and security solutions across multi-site networks. This hands-on contract role allows you to operate at a design authority level while staying technically involved in detailed design, build, configuration, and advanced troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of Palo Alto NGFW solutions, including PAN-OS configuration across L2 and L3 interfaces, zones, virtual routers, NAT, and enterprise security policy design. 
• Architect and deploy advanced security capabilities leveraging App-ID, Content-ID, and User-ID, ensuring alignment with enterprise security standards. 
• Design and implement security profiles including Anti-Spyware, Vulnerability Protection, URL Filtering, WildFire, Antivirus, File Blocking, and DNS Security across production environments. 
• Own SSL Forward Proxy and decryption strategy, including certificate authority chains, certificate deployment models, policy exclusions, and troubleshooting of browser and application issues. 
• Deliver Prisma Access implementations for mobile users and remote networks, including full lifecycle design, configuration, testing, and transition into operations. 
• Design and support GlobalProtect architecture including pre-logon configuration, certificate-based authentication, and secure remote access deployment. 
• Configure and troubleshoot dynamic routing with a strong focus on BGP, alongside IPsec VPN technologies including IKEv1 and IKEv2, tunnel monitoring, and MTU and MSS optimisation. 
• Provide senior-level troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and remediation across firewall and Prisma environments within a structured enterprise change framework.

Required Experience:

• Extensive hands-on experience designing and deploying Palo Alto NGFW within large enterprise networks. 
• Proven delivery of Prisma Access implementations in complex, production environments. 
• Deep technical expertise across PAN-OS architecture, advanced security policy design, decryption, and remote access solutions. 
• Strong capability across routing, VPN technologies, and enterprise firewall troubleshooting at L3 level and above. 
• Experience operating within large-scale enterprise transformation or security uplift programs.
