A Typical Day for a Cyber Security Engineer:

  • Morning Call: Start your day helping a client understand the benefits of newer security testing tools over traditional methods.
  • Mid-morning Task: Dive into setting up a Palo Alto firewall for a client using AWS.
  • Afternoon Session: Collaborate with a client prepping to implement a major security update across their systems.
  • End of Day: Guide a client through the details of a new security product they're considering, focusing on how it can ensure their data stays safe


Key Skills (Candidates should be strong in at least 3, with 6-8 years of hands-on experience):

  • Identity and Access Management (IDAM): Knows products like Okta or Duo and platforms like AWS Identity Management or Azure AD.
  • Breach and Attack Simulation: Experience with tools like Cymulate or AttackIQ.
  • Mitre Attack Framework: Understands its importance and can work with its various components.
  • Penetration and Vulnerability Testing: Has worked with tools like Kali Linux and HackerOne.
  • Linux: Comfortable with versions like Ubuntu 20.04+
  • Palo Alto Networks: Familiarity with the full range, especially Cortex XDR.
  • Cisco Networks: Solid grasp of the entire security stack.
  • Fortinet: Comprehensive knowledge of the whole system.
  • Elastic ELK: Good with the full suite, especially endpoint protection.


What Makes a Candidate Stand Out:

  • Certifications related to the skills above, especially in cloud security.
  • Familiarity with rules and guidelines like NIST-800, HIPPA, and GDPR.
