On today’s episode of the Security Vendor spin-off, we’re joined by our host Josh Snook, Head of Cybersecurity on the USA team and special guest, Jason Osei, Director of Technology at Campbell ISD. During today’s episode, Jason shares his journey from London to completely relocating his life to the USA. He also gives insight into the importance of networking and how imperative that’s been to him since he moved to America.

Coming from Tottenham, London, Jason’s life took an unexpected turn when he decided to venture into American football. He played with several teams and even took his skills abroad, competing in Germany and Finland. It was during his time in Finland that a highlight reel of his performances caught the eye of one of his coaches. Encouraged by his coach's belief in his talent, he decided to send the footage to the United States.

The American Dream Unfolds…

The response Jason received from across the pond was overwhelming. Among those who took notice was Baylor University, an institution with a strong football program. After chatting with them, it didn't take long for them to extend a scholarship offer. Jason spent 3 years at Baylor, before later transferring to Texas A&M Commerce, where he continued to play for his last 2 years.

Campbell ISD found Jason while he was doing his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M and offered him a scholarship to pursue a master's degree. This opportunity allowed Jason to deepen his knowledge in the field of cybersecurity.

Today, Jason Osei is the Director of Technology at Campbell ISD, a role he describes as one of the most rewarding experiences of his life. In his position, he takes on the critical responsibility of ensuring the safety and security of the school district's network. Jason's impact goes beyond safeguarding data. He is also passionate about education and leadership. He sees himself as a beacon of change, working to inspire the next generation. He actively engages with students, giving knowledge and wisdom, and leading by example. He strives to be the change he wants to see, preparing young minds for the future.

The value of networking

Jason's journey to the United States was not just a geographical shift; it was a transformation of his mindset and view of the world. He shares how his experiences in the U.S. helped him recognise the limitations of his own perspective. He realised that coming from England, he had unknowingly held misconceptions and, at times, a close-minded outlook.

Networking played a crucial role in dismantling these ideals. The people he connected with, both personally and professionally, became his guides to understanding the world differently. Through their diverse backgrounds and experiences, he gained new views and a more open-minded approach to life.
