The company is looking for a Controls Engineer to lead the design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of automation and controls systems across liquid- and air-cooled HPC data centers. Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, the role offers a hands-on opportunity to become the go-to controls and automation authority on live, mission-critical projects, working closely with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to shape how these facilities are integrated and operated. Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact for controls and automation across all stages of HPC data center project development, from design through commissioning
- Develop a coherent controls philosophy for the mechanical and electrical systems in use, enabling seamless integration and efficient operation
- Work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure new equipment and changing operational requirements are properly translated into control designs and systems
- Ensure new equipment and systems integrate seamlessly with DCIM and enterprise monitoring platforms, including energy and alarm management
- Coach and train other staff on the theory, design and use of control systems and tools
- Stay current with emerging technologies in controls and automation, keeping the business at the leading edge of design and operational excellence
Skills/Must Have:
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical engineering discipline, with 10+ years' experience in controls and automation within heavy industrial or mission-critical settings
- Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical cooling systems, their field devices, sensors/actuators and control/monitoring wiring methods
- Solid grounding in PLCs, SCADA systems and industrial network communication protocols
- Sound understanding of control theory (PID loops, ON/OFF control with hysteresis, scaled inputs, etc.)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills across all levels of the business
- Self-driven and comfortable with uncertainty and limited direction, with strong attention to detail
