The company is looking for an experienced Resident Engineer to provide high-level technical support for a mobile operator's Circuit-Switched (CS) core environment. The role involves Level 2/3 incident resolution, root-cause analysis, protocol trace analysis, emergency software updates, proactive network maintenance, capacity management, network health checks, datafill and routing updates, 3G sunset traffic refarming, change management, and technical guidance for local NOC and engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare HLD, LLD, datafill and MOP documentation for MSS/MGW platforms and perform integration activities.
  • Prepare design documentation and perform integration for SBC platforms.
  • Prepare design documentation and perform integration for SS7 and voice firewall solutions.
  • Manage technical functions and dependencies across the CS core, SS7, voice firewall and SBC environments.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation in line with customer requirements and network strategy.
  • Identify and escalate project-related technical issues.
  • Participate in programme and project review meetings.
  • Conduct impact analysis to assess technical effort, resource requirements and project constraints.
  • Identify and manage additional resource requirements, including licensing and capacity.
  • Provide input into capacity management and impact assessment activities.
  • Maintain agreed capacity headroom across core network elements and interconnects.
  • Perform detailed analysis of network performance reports and lead RCA activities.
  • Own and administer the network change management process across the relevant core, SS7, firewall and SBC platforms.
  • Assess the technical impact of proposed changes and provide approval recommendations.
  • Maintain and update change impact checklists.
  • Liaise with Operations and PMO teams regarding change planning and implementation.
  • Coordinate engineering resources across projects and planned activities.
  • Support major incident resolution, outage investigation and technical escalation.


Requirements:

  • Signalling: SS7, SIGTRAN, M3UA, SCTP, ISUP, MAP.
  • Control & Media: H.248/MEGACO, BICC, SIP, SIP-I.
  • Network Topology: 2G/3G CS Core, A, Iu-CS, Nc, Nb and Mc interfaces, TDM/E1, ATM and IP.
  • Voice Processing: AMR, AMR-WB, G.711, DSP allocation.
  • Mobile Core Platforms: Strong experience with Nokia DX200/ATCA or equivalent MSS/MGW platforms.
  • Diagnostics & Tracing: Wireshark and experience with specialist telecoms trace-analysis tools.
  • L2/L3 Support: Major incident handling, outage recovery, dump analysis, emergency patching and RCA.
  • Maintenance: Software/SMU upgrades, network health checks, capacity monitoring and maintenance-window execution.
  • Modern Interworking: CSFB, VoLTE/IMS integration and 4G/5G voice interworking.
  • 3G Sunset: Trunk dismantling, traffic refarming and interconnect migration.
  • Customer Operations: Experience working with NOC teams, CAB processes, SLAs and Tier-3 escalations.

  • Location in Dublin
  • Hybrid, with 3 days per week on-site
