They are looking for a Design Manager who will sit within a growing European data centre operator expanding across the Benelux and DACH regions, supporting new projects and country entries.

As Design Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing a diverse portfolio of data centre design projects, including new builds, expansions, and sustainability-driven upgrades across all operating countries. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the DM ensures all designs align with technical standards, strategic objectives, and sustainability ambitions.

 The role involves leading multidisciplinary design delivery, managing external consultants, and shaping technical standards across the organisation. You will play a key role in ensuring robust, compliant, and scalable data centre designs from concept through to commissioning, while supporting procurement, technical governance, and long-term infrastructure strategy.

Responsibilities:

• Lead end-to-end data centre design delivery across multiple projects (concept to tender) 
• Manage and coordinate external design consultants across all disciplines (CSA, MEP, Security, XMS) 
• Ensure compliance with the Blueprint, local regulations, and technical standards 
• Provide technical leadership, design assurance, and review across the project lifecycle 
• Support procurement and tender processes, including technical evaluation and recommendations to CTO 
• Oversee testing, commissioning, and validation to ensure design intent and performance compliance 
• Develop and maintain data centre design standards, blueprints, and best practices 
• Support site selection, feasibility studies, and technical due diligence 
• Drive sustainability, efficiency, and technical optimisation across the portfolio

Skills/Must have:

• 10+ years’ experience in data centre design, engineering, and construction 
• Strong understanding of data centre infrastructure (MEP, CSA, security systems) 
• Experience managing design consultants and leading technical design reviews 
• Familiarity with design methodologies (RIBA, BSRIA, HOAI Leistungsphasen) 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with a structured approach 
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills 
• Ability to influence technical decisions and drive alignment 
• Strong understanding of data centre market trends and emerging technologies 
• Experience working within critical infrastructure environments
