Responsibilities:

  • Operate microtrenching saws, trenchers, vacuum systems, and related construction equipment.
  • Perform microtrenching for telecommunications conduit installation.
  • Maintain proper trench width, depth, alignment, and grade according to plans and specifications.
  • Follow approved construction drawings, work orders, and project requirements.
  • Locate and maintain awareness of existing underground utilities.
  • Coordinate with the crew during trenching and conduit installation activities.
  • Assist with placing and installing telecommunications conduit within the trench.
  • Operate equipment safely around traffic, pedestrians, utilities, structures, and other construction activities.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify mechanical issues or potential safety problems.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication.
  • Assist with slurry, debris, and spoils removal as required.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Assist with restoration activities, including trench backfill, slurry/grout placement, asphalt, concrete, or other approved restoration methods.
  • Follow traffic control plans and work-zone requirements.
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow OSHA, company, municipal, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Complete daily production reports, equipment inspection forms, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with the Foreman and project management regarding production, equipment, and job-site conditions.
  • Perform other construction-related duties as assigned.


Skills/Must Have:

  • Previous experience operating microtrenching equipment preferred.
  • Telecommunications, underground utility, or civil construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand basic construction plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge of underground utility construction and safe digging practices.
  • Ability to operate equipment in tight or congested work areas.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or overtime when required by the project.
