A newly created opportunity exists for a Principal Engineer to act as designated Technical Authority at a major nuclear infrastructure site in Somerset. The ideal candidate will hold formal authority to approve or withhold approval of designs, technical deviations, system acceptance, and test strategies, bringing deep expertise across radio, wireless, DAS, and RF over fibre, with DMR Tier III experience essential and the confidence to challenge and withhold approval where requirements or evidence fall short.

Responsibilities:
- Serving as the senior day-to-day operational representative on site and leading the resident team
- Owning operational performance, workforce deployment, work prioritisation, and delivery readiness
- Acting as the primary customer-facing contact for operational delivery, service performance, and escalations
- Chairing daily coordination reviews and weekly and monthly operational meetings
- Managing operational risks, incidents, service continuity, and recovery coordination
- Coordinating subcontractors and suppliers engaged in site delivery within approved commercial, technical, and SHEQ arrangements
- Maintaining an integrated forward operational plan covering activity, resources, access, outages, WAFs, and dependencies
- Producing a monthly operational performance report
- Providing out of hours escalation point of contact coverage
Skills/Must Have:
- Demonstrable experience leading an operational engineering, maintenance, technical service, or critical infrastructure team
- Customer-facing service delivery background with day-to-day management of operational commitments, priorities, and escalations
- Workforce planning, resource allocation, performance management, and competence development experience
- Experience coordinating incidents, service restoration, and operational risk management
- Working knowledge of RAMS, safe systems of work, WAF, permit-to-work, or comparable controlled-work arrangements
- Experience managing subcontractors or third-party suppliers in an operational site environment
- Commercial awareness including scope control, resource forecasting, variation identification, and cost visibility
- Full UK driving licence and ability to meet nuclear site access requirements
Desirable Skills:
- Previous experience on a nuclear licensed site or within major infrastructure, utilities, transport, or telecommunications environments
- IOSH Managing Safely or a higher health and safety qualification
- SMSTS (Black Hat) certified
- ILM, CMI, or equivalent management qualification
- Working knowledge of radio, wireless, DAS, RF over fibre, IP networking, or integrated communications systems
- Formal service management, continuous improvement, or incident management practice experience
