The Principal Consultant will join the Buildings & Infrastructure practice within a multidisciplinary Cities & Places environment, working as part of a specialist ICT & Security team that supports projects across sectors including water, transport, cities, defense, and critical infrastructure. The successful candidate will combine hands-on technical design leadership with client engagement and commercial responsibility, with clear opportunities to progress into more strategic and leadership-focused responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver ICT and security design solutions across building and infrastructure projects from feasibility through to handover (RIBA stages)
- Act as a client-facing lead for ICT/security work, supporting relationship development and project delivery
- Contribute to business development activity alongside sector leads (no cold outbound sales focus)
- Work across multidisciplinary teams spanning architecture, engineering and infrastructure disciplines
- Provide technical oversight for secure communications and building ICT systems
- Coordinate and integrate security solutions across complex infrastructure environments
- Mentor and support junior team members, maintaining technical quality and delivery standards
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and responses to client briefs and proposals
- Support delivery across multiple sectors including defence, critical infrastructure, water and transport (excluding rail preference where possible)
Skills / Must Have:
- 10+ years’ experience in ICT systems for buildings and infrastructure environments
- Strong background in telecommunications, building services or infrastructure engineering design
- Proven experience in both project delivery and client/business-facing work
- Experience working within secure environments (e.g. defence or critical infrastructure)
- Eligibility for UK Security Clearance (or current/previous SC clearance)
- Strong understanding of integrated building ICT and security systems
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams
- Ability to produce technical documentation (reports, specifications, design outputs)
- Knowledge of systems such as:
- Data communications and networking systems
- Secure/non-secure communications systems
- Structured cabling and telecoms infrastructure
- CCTV and video surveillance systems
- Access control and intruder detection systems
- Perimeter and physical security systems (including barriers, fencing, HVM considerations)
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline
- Professional membership or working towards (e.g. engineering/security-related institution) desirable
