A newly created opportunity exists for a Principal Engineer to act as designated Technical Authority at a major nuclear infrastructure site in Somerset. The ideal candidate will hold formal authority to approve or withhold approval of designs, technical deviations, system acceptance, and test strategies, bringing deep expertise across radio, wireless, DAS, and RF over fibre, with DMR Tier III experience essential and the confidence to challenge and withhold approval where requirements or evidence fall short.

Responsibilities:
- Acting as the designated Technical Authority for all engineering activities within formally delegated authority
- Reviewing, approving, and signing off HLDs, LLDs, drawings, technical specifications, configuration information, and associated documentation
- Owning or approving test and acceptance strategies for systems, major installation works, enhancements, and material configuration changes
- Conducting preventative maintenance inspections and technical audits to assess maintenance quality and system condition
- Providing 2nd and 3rd line support for complex, recurring, or high-impact system faults
- Leading structured root cause investigations and producing technical investigation reports
- Protecting approved technical baselines and configuration integrity throughout the asset lifecycle
- Mentoring senior engineers, project engineers, and technicians
- Producing a monthly technical assurance report covering design status, test and acceptance activity, PMI outcomes, and technical risks
Skills/Must Have:
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in electronic, telecommunications, radio, networking, systems, or a closely related engineering discipline
- DMR Tier III, RF over Fibre, and DAS experience - all essential requirements for this role
- SMSTS or SSSTS certification (Black Hat or Blue Hat)
- Demonstrable design authority experience - formal technical approval, independent design review, HLD/LLD sign-off, and system acceptance
- Experience leading or approving FAT, SAT, site acceptance, integration, and commissioning testing
- Complex fault diagnosis and structured root cause investigation experience
- Deep expertise in at least two relevant technology domains with working breadth across integrated communications systems
- Full UK driving licence and ability to meet nuclear site access requirements
Desirable Skills:
- Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, or active progress toward professional registration
- Previous experience on a nuclear licensed site or within major infrastructure or a similarly regulated environment
- Relevant vendor certifications across radio, wireless, DAS, RFoF, networking, or unified communications
- Configuration management, asset management, and obsolescence planning experience
- Formal systems engineering, requirements traceability, verification and validation experience
