The successful candidate will join a growing Security Operations team within an established Managed Service Provider, taking ownership of customers' operational security across multiple environments. Combining hands-on engineering with governance activities, they will improve security posture through vulnerability management, security tool optimisation, and cyber security best practices while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the development of the organisation's managed security services.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain customer security platforms including Microsoft Defender, Mimecast, Barracuda, CrowdStrike, Bitdefender and Microsoft 365 security technologies.
  • Lead vulnerability management activities, including identifying, prioritising and driving remediation of security risks.
  • Monitor, investigate and coordinate the response to security incidents where required, working alongside third-party SOC partners when appropriate.
  • Perform ongoing security reviews to identify opportunities for improving customer security posture.
  • Deliver a balance of operational security engineering and governance activities across multiple customer environments.
  • Support governance initiatives including security policies, risk assessments and alignment with frameworks such as NIST and ISO 27001.
  • Conduct service delivery reviews with customers, providing security recommendations and continuous improvement plans.
  • Optimise security tooling through alert tuning, policy refinement and operational improvements.
  • Work closely with Infrastructure, Service Desk, Networking and Project teams to deliver secure customer environments.
  • Develop documentation, operational processes and security playbooks to improve consistency across the service.
  • Provide technical leadership and day-to-day guidance to junior members of the Security Operations team.
  • Contribute to the development and maturity of the managed security service as the team continues to grow.


Skills/Must Have:

  • Previous experience in a Security Operations Engineer, Cyber Security Engineer or similar security-focused position.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Defender.
  • Experience administering email security platforms such as Mimecast or Barracuda.
  • Good understanding of Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) technologies such as CrowdStrike, Bitdefender or Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.
  • Hands-on experience managing vulnerability management processes.
  • Experience working with Microsoft 365 security technologies.
  • Knowledge of governance, risk and compliance principles.
  • Understanding of security frameworks such as NIST and/or ISO 27001.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers would be advantageous.
  • Experience working within an MSP or managed services environment is desirable.
