The ideal candidate will take ownership of complex projects, working directly with major utility clients, with the opportunity over time to lead engineers, own client relationships, and manage a project portfolio as the business grows.

Responsibilities:

• Engineer fiber infrastructure for utility environments, with a primary focus on fiber termination, splicing and utility-site connectivity.
• Coordinate fiber placement requirements with utility clients and engineering teams.
• Determine appropriate intermediate splice locations and develop fiber splicing strategies.
• Design fiber termination and splicing requirements for utility infrastructure.
• Engineer connectivity into substations and other utility facilities.
• Develop detailed fiber construction and installation packages.
• Independently review and perform quality control on fiber designs and engineering deliverables.
• Conduct pre-design site visits, field surveys and post-construction/as-built inspections.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously through design and completion.
• Work closely with power-line engineering teams responsible for overall routing and permitting.
• Understand overall fiber routes while providing specialized engineering input into splice, termination and facility connectivity requirements.
• Communicate directly with utility clients and their engineering teams as a trusted technical adviser.
• Support broader middle-mile and telecommunications projects as opportunities arise.
• Over time, take ownership of client relationships, project portfolios and junior engineering resources.
• Travel will generally involve several days approximately once per month, with occasional additional travel. The primary territory includes:
• Houston, Austin, San Antonio, West Texas
• Occasional travel to Alaska may also arise.
• Travel will primarily support site surveys, client meetings, field inspections and as-built verification.

Skills/Must Have:

• Approximately 7–15 years of fiber, OSP or related engineering experience preferred.
• Strong candidates with approximately 5 years of OSP experience may also be considered.
• Strong understanding of fiber termination, splicing and connectivity.
• Experience working with aerial and/or underground fiber infrastructure.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and engineering deliverables simultaneously.
• Strong design review and quality-control capabilities.
• Ability to communicate effectively with utility clients, engineering teams and other stakeholders.
• Comfortable working independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Desirable Skills:

• Electric utility, cooperative or municipal utility experience.
• Utility engineering consultancy experience.
• Critical infrastructure engineering experience.
• Fiber contractor experience supporting utility clients.
• Substation or utility-facility connectivity.
• Fiber construction and installation package development.
• Familiarity with OTDR testing and fiber splicing.
• Experience with GIS and AutoCAD/MicroStation.
• Pole attachment and make-ready experience.
• Utility protection experience.
• Knowledge of ROW, permitting and easements.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
• Candidates without direct utility experience may still be considered if they possess strong fiber engineering fundamentals, have significant termination and splicing experience, and are comfortable working within utility environments.

Location:

• Houston, TX is strongly preferred, including candidates willing to relocate.
• Exceptional candidates based in Austin or San Antonio may also be considered.
