The organisation is looking for an experienced Signaling Design Engineer to join the Core Network Engineering team. This role plays a pivotal part in designing and evolving the voice signaling platforms, shaping the future of both legacy and next-generation mobile networks. Working within a high-performing design team, the Signaling Design Engineer own signaling designs from concept through delivery, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, customer-focused, and aligned with business objectives.

Responsibilities: 

  • Produce high and low-level designs for core voice signalling platforms.
  • Lead signalling design activities across projects involving IP STP, DSC (DRA/DEA), IMS and legacy voice core networks.
  • Define design requirements, capacity models and network evolution plans.
  • Develop and support automated test capabilities for 5G Standalone (5G SA) and legacy core network nodes.
  • Work closely with the Core Test team to automate call flow testing and improve delivery efficiency.
  • Produce Statements of Requirements (SoRs), review supplier Statements of Compliance (SoCs), Statements of Work (SoWs) and technical proposals.
  • Ensure designs meet security, fraud prevention and operational standards.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal engineering teams to support network transformation initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership and design assurance throughout the project lifecycle.


Required Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Strong experience designing signalling solutions within mobile core networks.
  • Good understanding of 2G, 3G, 4G/LTE, IMS and 5G Core technologies.
  • Hands-on knowledge of signalling protocols including:
  • SS7
  • SIGTRAN
  • SIP
  • Diameter
  • MAP
  • Experience with IP STP, DRA, DEA, DSC and IMS platforms.
  • Understanding of traffic engineering, capacity planning and network modelling.
  • Experience producing High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs) and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance technical and business requirements.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.


Desirable:

  • Experience supporting mobile network evolution or transformation programmes.
  • Knowledge of signalling security and fraud mitigation.
  • Experience working with telecoms vendors and reviewing technical compliance documentation.
  • Exposure to automation frameworks for telecoms testing.


Work Arrangements:

  • Located in Reading / Remote
  • Contract is Inside IR35
