The organization is currently on the lookout for a Telecommunications Equipment Operator & Laborer to operate construction equipment and perform general labour on underground telecommunications installation projects. The ideal candidate will assist with microtrenching, conduit and microduct installation, boring, vault installation, slurry operations, restoration, and site cleanup.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate construction equipment safely and efficiently according to project requirements.
  • Assist with microtrenching and conduit installation.
  • Operate or assist with equipment such as:
    • Mini excavators
    • Skid steers
    • Walk-behind trenchers
    • Vacuum excavation equipment
    • Compaction equipment
    • Concrete saws
    • Pumps and slurry equipment
    • Other telecommunications construction equipment
  • Assist with installation of microducts, conduits, innerducts, and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Assist with installation of telecommunications vaults, handholes, and pull boxes.
  • Assist HDD crews with boring operations, including setup, material handling, and site preparation.
  • Assist with slurry mixing, placement, removal, and cleanup.
  • Perform excavation, backfilling, grading, compaction, and material handling.
  • Assist with concrete, asphalt, and surface restoration.
  • Load, unload, move, and organize construction materials and equipment.
  • Use hand tools and power tools as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow traffic-control requirements and work safely around vehicles and the traveling public.
  • Identify and report underground utility conflicts, unsafe conditions, equipment problems, or jobsite hazards.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance issues.
  • Follow project plans, specifications, company procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with the Foreman and other crew members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Skills/Must Have:

  • Previous construction or telecommunications experience preferred.
  • Equipment operating experience preferred.
  • Experience with underground utilities, fiber-optic construction, conduit installation, microtrenching, or boring is a plus.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and underground utilities.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • OSHA, traffic-control, equipment-operation, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
